Shayne's Training Philosophy
- Uses a positive approach to training.
- Shayne is a primarily positive trainer. She hesitates to say "positive-only" as she does
employ the use of verbal corrections and NRM’s (no reward markers) if appropriate. She does not like to use physical corrections or aversive devices in her training and tries to avoid doing so in the majority of situations. She will never use electronic devices of any kind or prong collars in her training. She relies heavily on clicker training and positive methods proven to be scientifically successful and motivating. She has trained dogs both traditionally with corrections (the past) and with purely positive methods such as, but not limited to, clicker training (the present) and the positive methods have risen above for her as the successful and effective way to train (and yes, she has had success using purely positive methods with “difficult” breeds!)
- Favorite Books/Seminars that influenced Shayne's Style: Building Blocks for
Performance- Bobbie Anderson and Libby, Clicker Training for Obedience- Morgan Spector, The Power of Positive Dog Training- Pat Miller, Control Unleashed- Leslie Mcdevitt, The Clicked Retriever- Lana Mitchell, Anything by Karen Pryor or Ian Dunbar. Videos by Janice DeMello.

Shayne's Education
- She has been exposed to and has applied a variety of training methods. Shayne has
trained with or studied under a variety of trainers, each with a different style. Each mentor trainer had something to offer, whether positive and inspirational, or in that they just showed her what she knew she would never do with her dogs. :-) She has developed methods and ideals that work for her, all the while continuing to be a sponge and absorb, while never settling and striving for excellence.

A Message from Shayne: Fun, fairness, structure, and consistency are key. I believe in training with the most positive methods possible to create a highly motivated, enthusiastic, reliable family pet or working dog. I believe that you should feel good about the methods you are using and the relationship you are creating with your dog, and try to always do no harm, creating a bond of trust, respect, and love. While I am an avid competitor and train my own dogs with a competitive mind, I find joy in all training successes large and small, and am overjoyed when a student tells me that through my training they now have a dog that is an enjoyable house dog and a well mannered companion, who is a joy to live with. Whether obtaining an upper level competitive title, or simply mastering loose-leash-walking with a former pulling machine, I value all student progress and success!
